THE SKINNY: Did not play during the lockout ... Is in his 11th season with the Avalanche and will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year. Has spent 16 years with the Quebec/Colorado organization ... Was tied for second in NHL scoring in the 2003-04 season with 87 points ... Has played in 12 NHL all-star games ... His 78 career playoff goals rank 10th all-time and his next in the post-season will tie him with Jean Beliveau ... Won the Conn Smythe as the playoff MVP during the Avalanche's run in 1997 to the Stanley Cup ... Is a good bet to replace Mario Lemieux as the captain for Team Canada at the upcoming Turin Olympics in February ... Was a member of Canada's gold-medal winning team at the Salt Lake City Olympics in 2002.

NOTEWORTHY:

DENVER -- G Dominik Hasek, who backed up Ray Emery on Saturday in Calgary, will make the start for the Senators ... The Senators are 10-19-4 lifetime against the Avalanche/Nordiques. What's worse is Ottawa is 2-12-1 lifetime on the road against the Colorado organization ... Senators coach Bryan Murray, sensing his troops were tired after two OT games in different time zones in less than 24 hours, simply held an optional workout at the hotel yesterday. Many of the players had a chance to attend the Broncos-Ravens game yesterday at Mile High Stadium ... The Avalanche is coming off a 4-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. The loss ended a streak of 8-0-1 in Pittsburgh. "We expected we would win here," said RW Milan Hejduk. "It feels like we lost points ourselves here. We should have buried a couple of chances there, and the game would have been over."
