Sabres keep getting carved up by Sens

As Dany Heatley celebrated his second goal of the night, Sabres goalie Martin Biron smashed his stick over the back of the net in frustration.

The Sabres haven't just been beaten by the Senators this season, they've taking a beating.

After last night's 6-1 victory at the Corel Centre, Ottawa has outscored the Sabres 21-5 in three games this season.

"Ottawa smelled blood and they came and got us," said a frustrated Biron in a quiet Buffalo dressing room. "They jumped on the opportunities that they got and they made the most of them.

"We have to do a better job against a team like that. We did a lot to help make them look great."

Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff was so frustrated with what was happening on the ice, he called a time out after Heatley scored his first of the game 1:15 into the second to give the Senators a 3-0 lead.

In a 10-4 loss to the Senators at the HSBC Center on Nov. 2, the Sabres had an excuse -- goalie Ryan Miller broke his thumb in the morning skate.

Last night, the Sabres just couldn't keep up with the Senators and were simply outclassed. Games between these two teams used to be tight, but even Buffalo's speed isn't saving them now.

"We handed them two goals with turnovers at the start of the third," said Ruff. "When we implode, we really implode. You don't give a team like Ottawa those kinds of chances because they're going to make you pay."

The Sabres are probably happy they don't see the Senators for the again this season until just before the Olympic break (Feb. 4 in Buffalo). Ruff had a 10-minute meeting with his players after last night's game and didn't look happy afterward.

"You know what makes them a great team? Daniel Alfredsson had a chance on a breakaway, got cut off and the puck was forced into the corner," said Buffalo captain Chris Drury. "He was the first guy back. That's why they're a great team.

"If I had that video, I would show it to our guys a hundred times."
