NOTES

With Senators D Anton Volchenkov returning to the lineup last night after missing two games with bruised ribs, D Christoph Schubert became a healthy scratch ... The Islanders, coming off a 5-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday, elected not to skate yesterday morning at the Corel Centre. "I don't think they wanted to make the trip from downtown and the other reason is I think we were just trying to change things up a bit," said Islanders assistant Brad Shaw, a former Senators captain ... Starting with last night's game against Ottawa, the Islanders will play 7-of-8 games on the road. "It's a tough stretch," said Islanders coach Steve Stirling. "If we don't know already we'll certainly find out. The character will show through loud and clear based on our passion and our energy and will to fight through some adversity."
