Czechs put Dom on Olympic list

BUFFALO -- The Dominator could get another shot at Olympic gold.

After leading the Czech Republic to a title in 1998 at the Nagano Winter Games, Senators goalie Dominik Hasek is on the preliminary roster of 66 players released yesterday, along with Ottawa wingers Martin Havlat and Vaclav Varada.

Hasek, who will have to battle for the No. 1 job with Nashville's Tomas Vokoun, said yesterday that he has spoken with Czech coach Alois Hadamczech.

"We had a good talk and I would like to be there," said Hasek. "I told him I would either go as the starter or as the backup because I know Tomas Vokoun has played well and he deserves the chance. I'm excited. I would love to be there."

Havlat, who was left off the world championship roster last spring by ex-coach Vladimir Ruzicka, said he wants the chance to play.

"I really enjoyed the Olympics in Salt Lake City. I would love to get back there," said Havlat.
