TORONTO -- Mike Fisher is the latest Senators player headed overseas thanks to the NHL lockout.

Fisher told the Sun yesterday he's agreed to a game-by-game contract with EV Zug of the Swiss Elite League and will decide next month if he'll stay for the entire season.

Fisher said he'll leave tonight for Switzerland, where the winger will suit up for former 67's great Shawn Simpson, who is Zug's coach.

"This was a good opportunity for me to get some playing time," said Fisher. "After the (Original Stars Hockey League) didn't work out, I didn't have a lot of options. I would have been left sitting at home with nothing to do.

"From everything I've heard this is a good league. I would think the Senators would be happy, as an organization, that I'm going to get some playing time."

Fisher said he's optimistic there will be an NHL season and that's why he only committed to a short-term contract with Zug.

But if the entire NHL campaign is cancelled, he'll stay in Switzerland for the season.

"I'm looking forward to getting back to playing. The OSHL wasn't as competitive as any of us wanted it to be," said Fisher.
