Sportsnet.ca says Zdeno Chara has already created a controversy in the Swedish Elite League.

Signed to play for Farejstad, Chara's stick is not legal in that league.

The 6-foot-9 Senators defenceman's stick is so long that he had to get an exemption from the NHL because it exceeded league rules that stipulate a stick can't be longer than 160 cms.

Sportsnet.ca says the maximum length allowed in the Elite League is 163 cm. Chara's stick could exceed that by 17 cms.

Teams can call for a stick measurement during a game, but club officials believe there could be a gentleman's agreement to leave Chara alone.
