Rumours surrounding Peter DeBoer’s future with the New Jersey Devils are dead.

The 45-year-old will be back behind New Jersey’s bench for the 2014-15 season, according to general manager Lou Lamorello, who confirmed Sunday he has already signed DeBoer through the end of next season.

"There are rumours going on, a lot of misinformation about our coach. So I thought I'd get really out of character and put this to rest,” Lamorello told the New Jersey Star-Ledger. “Pete DeBoer is under contract for next year, has been under contract for next year and will be coaching next year.

"That's all I have to say. We usually wait to make any announcements about anything."

This follows speculation the former Florida Panthers bench boss was on a short-list to take over for Randy Carlyle in Toronto.

After DeBoer led New Jersey to a Stanley Cup final loss in 2012, the Devils are set to miss the NHL playoffs for the second consecutive season.

The Devils are currently sixth in the Metropolitan Division.
