The running feud between Martin Brodeur and Sean Avery is apparently the gift that keeps on giving.

On Thursday, Avery, the retired NHL pest, took to Twitter to express his displeasure with a comment Brodeur made to the New Jersey Star-Ledger.

The newspaper asked the 41-year-old goalie for his thoughts on Avery being cut from Dancing With The Stars after only two weeks on the reality TV show.

"I didn't watch -- I don't watch those shows -- but I was watching NHL Network and they mentioned it," Brodeur said before adding, "What more could he do to embarrass himself? There it is!"

Avery, not one to mince his words, had a quick response.

"Woke up beside a #Supermodel to hear news that #Fatso made a comment," he said via Twitter. Avery noted DWTS supports charitable organizations. "Fatso" is Avery's nickname for Brodeur. (This tweet has since been deleted.)

The real zinger came next: "Embarrassing is when you sleep with the #Nanny and get caught :)"

Avery, who retired from hockey in 2012, is alluding to Brodeur's broken first marriage in that second tweet. The future Hall of Famer reportedly had an affair with his sister-in-law, who later became his new wife.

Perhaps the best known Avery-Brodeur confrontation occurred in 2008 when the "Avery Rule" was hatched. The agitator, then with the New York Rangers, waved his stick in the air in front of Brodeur during a playoff series.

The maneuver wasn't considered illegal at the time. However, it prompted the league to look into over-the-top screening techniques and establish new grounds for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
