Robinson leaves Devils for Sharks

The San Jose Sharks have confirmed the hiring of Hall of Famer Larry Robinson as associate coach.

Robinson comes over from the New Jersey Devils, where he served as an assistant coach for a club which reached the Stanley Cup final before losing in six games to the Los Angeles Kings. General manager Doug Wilson and coach Todd MacLellan announced the hiring Monday.

A six-time Cup winner with the Montreal Canadiens during his 20-year playing career (1972-89 with Montreal, 1989-92 with Los Angeles, Robinson also has won three Cups as a coach.

The 61-year-old is expected to focus on the Sharks defensive play and penalty killing.
