NEWARK, N.J. - The New Jersey Devils have signed Swedish defenseman Adam Larsson to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Larsson was the first defenseman chosen in last month's NHL draft, taken fourth overall after forwards Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Gabriel Landeskog and Jonathan Huberdeau.

"It is our intention, his intention to be in North America (next season)," Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said.

Larsson, who was viewed by some as the No. 1 overall prospect in the entire draft, compiled one goal, eight assists and 41 penalty minutes in 37 games for his Swedish Elite League club, Skelleftea, in 2010-11.
