There hasn’t exactly been an outpouring of support for fired New York Rangers bench boss John Tortorella.

For instance, take winger Marian Gaborik, who was traded by the Rangers to the beleaguered Columbus Blue Jackets in April.

“Everything happens for a reason," Gaborik tweeted an hour after the Rangers dismissed their fiery head coach.

Then, there was Sean Avery, the NHL’s former bad boy turned semi-retired pundit.

He tweeted out this gem at the end of March.

“Fire this clown (Tortorella), his players hate him and won’t play for his BS.”

On Thursday, Avery, who played for the Rangers from 2009-12, got his wish – and he reminded NHL fans.

“Don’t ever doubt what I say,” Avery wrote.

Tortorella came under fire during the second round of the NHL playoffs when he decided to bench high-dollar centre Brad Richards during Game 4 against the Boston Bruins.

After bowing out in five games to the B’s, Tortorella shouldered most of the blame, his last appearance in front of cameras.
