A scary moment at Madison Square Garden Tuesday night saw New York Rangers defenceman Marc Staal drop to the ice after taking a slap shot from Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Kimmo Timonen in the face.
Staal was in obvious pain as droplets of blood coated the surface around him while concerned players watched on.
Timonen’s shot at 5:45 of the third period appeared to glance off Jakub Voracek’s stick before it caught Staal on or above his right eye.
Staal, who does not wear a visor, didn’t return to the game.
When asked for a comment on Staal's condition following New York's eventual 4-2 win, one was not immediately provided by the club.
