Rangers place Redden on waivers

NEW YORK -- The New York Rangers on Saturday placed veteran defenseman Wade Redden on waivers.

Rangers president and general manager Glen Sather said the move helps the club get under the salary cap and provides an opportunity for younger players to earn a roster spot.

If Redden, 33, who signed a lucrative six-year contract in 2008, clears waivers, he can be sent to the Rangers' American Hockey League affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Redden posted two goals and 12 assists for 14 points in 2009-10, all career lows.

Do you think the officiating has been fair in the Kings-Sharks series?
  Yes
  No
No ... but the refs seem to be evening it out themselves
