The New York Islanders are scheduled to move into Brooklyn's Barclays Center ahead of the 2015-16 season.

But could it be earlier?

"I've talked to (Barclays Center developer) Bruce (Ratner) about this," Islanders owner Charles Wang told Newsday. "It would be nice if we could and there is maybe an opportunity."

Under their current lease agreement, the Isles are obligated to play out the next two seasons at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale before moving to Brooklyn.

While the NHL club would be on the hook for compensating the county for breaking its lease agreement, an early move would allow the Isles to tap into new revenue streams currently unavailable to it at its current location.

"It's really not in my control," Wang said. "We will work with whatever the county does. We are prepared to honour the lease.

"(Moving early) would be fine, but we're set with where we are."
