UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- The New York Islanders announced on Friday that goaltender Rick DiPietro suffered a concussion, and there is no timetable set for his return.

The 30-year-old veteran, who has battled numerous injuries throughout his tumultuous 10-year career, was hurt in practice on Wednesday when teammate Brian Rolston hit him in the mask with a shot.

He was scratched for the Isles' 5-1 victory over Tampa Bay on Thursday, with Al Montoya getting the start and Evgeni Nabokov the backup.

The first overall selection by New York in 2000 out of Boston University, DiPietro finished 8-14-0 with a 3.44 goals-against average and one shutout in 26 games last year.
