The New York Islanders are still negotiating Alexei Yashin's possible return to the team he was turfed from in 2007.

As reported last Saturday, Isles general manager Garth Snow is holding contract talks with agent Mark Gandler.

Snow bought out Yashin after the 2007 season and the Isles are paying the 37-year-old forward $2.2 million a year, through 2014-15, as a result.

Yashin told ESPN.com Tuesday that he didn't want to get ahead of himself regarding his possible return from the Kontinental Hockey League.

"It might happen, but it might not happen," he said. "I can't really prepare for what might be ahead.

"I always liked it here on Long Island. If I can help, why not?"
