NEW YORK -- New York Islanders forward Michael Grabner has been selected as the NHL's top rookie for the month of February.

The 23-year-old tallied 10 goals and an NHL-best 16 points among all rookies in 14 contests during the month. He registered at least one goal in six straight games from February 5-15, which was the longest rookie scoring streak since Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin had a six-gamer in the 2006-07 campaign.

Grabner posted two-goal games in a 4-3 shootout win at Montreal on February 10 and another in a lopsided 9-3 decision versus Pittsburgh the following day. Then on February 13, the native of Austria recorded his first-career hat trick when he scored the overtime winner in a wild 7-6 decision at Buffalo.

In 60 games this season, Grabner has 25 goals and 37 points to go with a plus- nine rating.

Others considered for the monthly honor were Columbus left wing Matt Calvert, Edmonton right wing Jordan Eberle, San Jose center Logan Couture, Chicago goaltender Corey Crawford and Toronto netminder James Reimer.
