UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- The New York Islanders and right wing P.A. Parenteau agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension on Thursday.

Parenteau has 14 goals and 21 assists through 56 games with the Islanders this season. His point totals are tied for second place on the squad.

"I'm really excited to stay on Long Island," said Parenteau. "The Islanders organization has given me the chance to prove that I belong in the NHL and I look forward to being a part of the success that is building in our dressing room for the near future."

The 27-year-old has appeared in 83 games with Chicago, the Rangers and the Islanders, totaling 17 goals and 27 assists during that time.
