Toronto - The NHL has suspended New York Islanders forward Matt Martin for two games as a result of his blindside check to the head of Phoenix Coyotes forward Vernon Fiddler during Saturday's game.

Martin will also forfeit $6,792.12 in salary for the hit he delivered at the 6:23 mark of the first period, an illegal check that garnered a two-minute penalty for charging.

He will miss games against Tampa Bay and New Jersey.
