NEW YORK -- New York Islanders defenseman James Wisniewski was suspended for two games by the NHL for his taunting of Rangers' forward Sean Avery on Monday.
At the end of the play, Wisniewski could be seen making an inappropriate hand gesture toward Avery in front of the Islanders' net.
"A lot of actions on the ice are regrettable," Wisniewski said. "I've been given a suspension from the league, and I'm going to accept it and move on from there."
Wisniewski will be ineligible for the Isles' games on Wednesday against Washington and Friday against Pittsburgh. Acquired by New York this past offseason, he has a goal and two assists thus far in 2010-11.
