Rick DiPietro's string of consecutive starts is dangling in the air.
The Islanders' No. 1 goalie is listed as day-to-day after being involved in a collision with Montreal's Steve Begin on Tuesday night. DiPietro was sent to hospital for tests and, although he did not practise at Bell Centre yesterday, he did accompany the team to Ottawa.
DiPietro has apparently told coach Ted Nolan he wants to play in tonight's game against the Senators.
While it appeared DiPietro suffered a head injury after an up-close meeting with Begin's knee, the team says he has neck stiffness. Nolan was vague after yesterday's practice, saying that his goalie has general body soreness.
"We're just saying that he's just sore," Nolan told reporters in Montreal. "Soreness could mean that your toe hurts."
If DiPietro doesn't play tonight, Mike Dunham will start in goal for the Islanders. The Islanders recalled Wade Dubielewicz from Bridgeport in case DiPietro doesn't dress.
