There are lots of rumblings about disgruntled players in Montreal, unhappy with the environment under coach Michel Therrien.

The approach of Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin has been longterm; his plan is not about today, but making the Habs a contender in another couple of years. It would be tough to see Bergevin undermining his plan by making a coaching change just a year into Therrien's mandate.

This sounds more like the classic coach's challenge.

There are eight players who like him, usually the guys getting the most ice time.

There are eight guys who are indifferent about him.

There are eight players who can't stand him because they don't have his trust or have been in his doghouse.

The coach's top job? Keeping the eight guys who can't stand him away from the eight who are indifferent.
