MONTREAL - Montreal Canadiens winger Max Pacioretty and Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith had, as Pacioretty put it, an "eventful" night.

The two were literally toe-to-toe at one point and then face-to-face as Pacioretty's two goals finally helped the Habs, whose offence had been frozen in a snowbank, to a 3-1 win Tuesday night at the Bell Centre.

Pacioretty broke in on Smith 40 seconds into the game and Smith turned him back.

Pacioretty was called for tripping Smith seven minutes into the game when Pacioretty's skate caught Smith's skate when he was out of the net to play the puck.

That led to the two having a conversation in the crease a few minutes later.
