The Montreal Canadiens have started contract talks with Norris Trophy winner P.K. Subban.

The 24-year-old defenceman’s current deal expires at the end of the season. The Toronto native will become a restricted free agent if he doesn’t sign a new deal by then.

“We have started to negotiate,” Subban’s lead agent, Don Meehan, told QMI Agency’s sister sports channel, TVA Sports.

But Subban’s inner circle preferred to remain discreet when asked about the status of negotiations.

“We’ll keep it confidential throughout the process, we have nothing to report at this time,” said Marc Guy, another of Subban’s representatives.
