The Montreal Canadiens have offered defenceman P.K. Subban a two-year contract worth $5.5 million, according to one report Wednesday, but the sides apparently are far apart.

One of Subban's agents told TVA Sports that a deal was not imminent and that the terms made public were incorrect.

"I don't see anything being done in the short term," agent Mark Guy said Wednesday. "These deals are difficult and take time.

"I can, however, say that negotiations are ongoing and that the information reported is not accurate."

Subban reportedly is looking for a longer term than two years. The 23-year-old played for $875,000 in 2011-12, his third season as a pro.

He is the Habs' only unsigned player for next season.
