Montreal Canadiens defenceman Josh Gorges got a significant pay raise and some long-term job security Sunday.

Gorges signed a six-year contract extension worth a reported $23.4 million.

According to TSN, the deal averages $3.9 million per season. It also reportedly has a no-trade clause in the first year and limited no-trade the remaining five years.

Gorges, 27, has one goal and nine assists in 39 games this season. In 307 career games with the Canadiens, he has nine goals and 50 assists.

The Canadiens signed Gorges to a one-year, $2.5 million contract last summer.
