Montreal Canadiens defenceman Hal Gill will become the 266th player in NHL history to play 1,000 games when he takes to the ice Thursday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Gill will reach the milestone a day before San Jose Sharks forward Joe Thornton does it. Both players started their careers with the Boston Bruins in 1997.
In other Habs news, forward Michael Cammalleri practised Wednesday but isn't expected to be in the lineup against the Penguins.
Cammalleri suffered a laceration to his left leg in the second game of the season Oct. 9 against the Winnipeg Jets.
