Montreal Canadiens forward Michael Cammalleri returned to the ice Monday, eight days after suffering a bad cut to his left leg during a game against the Winnipeg Jets.

Cammalleri showed no effects of the deep gash above his knee during his skate at the Bell Centre but he won't be in the lineup Tuesday against the Buffalo Sabres.

Defenceman Jaroslav Spacek, out for two to three weeks due to a rib injury, skated on his own. Another key blueliner, Andrei Markov, still hasn't returned from visiting doctors in Florida about his injured knee.

Habs coach Jacques Martin, not happy with his team's start to the season, voiced his displeasure during Monday's workout.

"It's the right thing," forward Mathieu Darche said. "Our lack of intensity hurt us in the first games of the season. We need to return more quickly in the defensive zone. "
