MONTREAL - The Montreal Canadiens signed veteran forward Erik Cole to a four-year deal on Friday.

As per club policy, the Canadiens did not disclose the financial terms, but Cole's contract is reportedly worth $4.5 million a year.

Cole, a 32-year-old American, has played in 620 career games with Carolina and Edmonton and has registered 184 goals and 206 assists in those outings. He skated in all 82 games for Carolina in 2010-11 and posted 26 goals and 26 assists and ranked fourth in the NHL with nine game-winning tallies.

A member of the Hurricanes' 2006 Stanley Cup championship team, Cole has only played 63 NHL games outside of the Carolina organization. He was traded to Edmonton in the summer of 2008, but was then dealt back to the Hurricanes in March of 2009.
