MONTREAL -- P.K. Subban figured it might play out this way.
From the moment he heard Philadelphia Flyers captain Mike Richards slag him last week, he understood it would quickly become a much-discussed public issue.
Richards suggested Subban did too much yapping out on the ice, adding that such gabbing was disrespectful coming from a raw rookie.
With Subban's Habs butting heads with Richards' Flyers Monday night, you can bet all eyes will be on the Montreal defenceman and the Philly captain.
“To be honest, I know that's the way the public and media will handle it,” Subban told QMI Agency. “Things like that can get blown out of proportion.
“To be honest, that situation has nothing to do with me. It’s not me saying anything. I just kind of keep my mouth shut.
“We have games to play here. I can't worry. I just take care of what goes on in this dressing room. I can't focus on anything else.
“It's tough enough being a rookie having played just 20 games in this league. I can't worry about all that other stuff.”
He might not have a choice Monday night. Richards, after all, likely won't let him forget it. You can bet the leather-lunged Flyer fans certainly won't.
