Montreal Canadiens defenceman Andrei Markov, out since undergoing off-season knee surgery, could be back in the lineup Saturday night against the Florida Panthers.

Canadiens coach Jacques Martin said after practice Monday that he "hoped to see (Markov) in uniform during the weekend."

Markov, who has been cleared for contact and has been skating with the Canadiens for the past week, could have been ready to play earlier. But with four games in six nights, Martin does not want to take any chances.

In 45 games last season, Markov had six goals and 28 assists. His return will give an immediate boost to the Canadiens' sputtering power play, which has converted just once in 24 chances this season.
