MONTREAL - P.K. Subban wasn't making any apologies for the way he plays or talks on the ice.

The Montreal Canadiens rookie defenceman was criticized by Don Cherry on Coach's Corner Saturday night after Cherry showed clips of Subban jawing with Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.

"It's good to be cocky when you come in the league," Cherry said. "Really, it's good to be cocky. I like that.

"But you've got to show a little respect.

"If he has a big mouth like that, he's gonna get hurt," Cherry said after a clip was shown of Pittsburgh's Mike Comrie high-sticking Subban.

Subban said Tuesday he plays everyone the same way.

"I play them tough, I play them hard. I do everything I can to make sure he doesn't score. If you're intimidated by guys, you're going to get eaten alive. You can't be intimidated. I'm going to go out and play it the way I've always played it."

HEAR AND THERE: Defenceman Roman Hamrlik is expected to make his season debut in the Habs' opener Wednesday night. It will be Hamrlik's 1,233rd regular season game (74th on the career list). Alexandre Picard will come out ... Defenceman Andrei Markov skated with the Habs again Tuesday and talk is he could return Saturday against the Ottawa Senators. The Habs could use him. Their usually strong power play is 0-for-6 in two games so far.
