The Minnesota Wild won the free-agent sweepstakes last summer, that is, if one considers spending nearly $200 million on two players a lottery victory.

Regardless, the Wild are looking at Ryan Suter and Zach Parise to take them to the next level, having signed the two to identical 13-year $98-million contracts in the off-season.

“It’s a lot of fun having them here,” said Wild head coach Mike Yeo. “You can see the effect that they’re having on our team, just their personalities.

“With Ryan, he has this calming influence and you can see that coming out of our own zone and in our ability to not panic in those situations.

“With Zach, he just has this incredible work ethic, shift after shift, regardless of what the score is or what the situation in the game is, he’s unrelenting.”
