Sunrise, FL - The NHL suspended Wild defenseman Brent Burns, without pay, for two games after he butt-ended Steve Bernier in the face with his stick.

Burns will forfeit $38,172.04 in salary which automatically goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund. He will miss a November 14 game with Tampa Bay and a November 17 tilt with Anaheim and is eligible to return on November 19 when the Wild take on the Red Wings.

Also on Saturday, the Florida Panthers announced that forward Steve Bernier will undergo surgery to repair a fractured orbital bone later Saturday.

Bernier suffered the injury during Friday's 2-1 win over Minnesota, when the butt end of Wild defenseman Brent Burns' stick hit him in the face.

The 25-year-old posted a goal and four points in 14 games thus far this season, his first with Florida after two seasons in Vancouver.
