Wild send Sykora to minors

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Minnesota Wild on Wednesday assigned veteran right wing Petr Sykora to the club's American Hockey League affiliate in Houston.

The demotion came after attempts to swing a trade proved unsuccessful.

Sykora returned to the lineup in late December after missing time with a concussion suffered on a hit by Stars forward Steve Ott on November 7. In 14 games this season for the Wild, he has just two goals and one assist with a minus-7 rating.

The 33-year-old Czech native captured a second Stanley Cup title last spring with Pittsburgh. His first came as a member of the New Jersey Devils in 2000.

Originally taken 18th overall by the Devils in the 1995 draft, Sykora has 302 goals and 375 assists in 935 career NHL games.
