Los Angeles Kings defenceman Drew Doughty is being investigated for an alleged sexual assault but indications from prosecutors and cops is that no charges will be brought forward.
A 25-year-old woman accused Doughty of raping her after they met at a Hermosa Beach bar on March 1. The woman alleges she refused Doughty's advances at the bar -- she called him an a------ in front of teammates, according to TMZ.com -- but he got her into a taxi, took her to his home and raped her.
The woman said she took a cab home following the alleged incident and later went to a hospital, where police interviewed her.
But Hermosa Beach police Sgt. Robert Higgins told the L.A. Times that the woman has been "less than cooperative" and that the district attorney's office and cops "found credibility problems." TMZ's report says police sources indicated that Doughty won't be charged by Los Angeles County prosecutors due to lack of evidence.
Doughty's attorney, Craig Renetzky, also told the Times he expects it will be rejected even though it is still being reviewed by prosecutors.
The woman has reportedly hired noted women's rights lawyer Gloria Allred to represent her.
