BOSTON - Alleged medical issues have left the Marco Sturm-to-Los Angeles trade in limbo.

While sources indicate both the Kings and Boston Bruins have “left the door open” for further discussions, Sturm remains property of the Bruins.

For the time being, anyway.

The Bruins remain poised to deal the veteran winger to the Los Angeles Kings, reportedly for a conditional draft pick. To that end, Sturm actually waived his no-trade clause, apparently opening the door for the deal to take place midday on Thursday.

But by the time the the Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning took to the ice at the TD Garden Thursday, the deal had yet to become official.

Sturm had off-season ACL and MCL surgery and has yet to play this season, although he did return to practice earlier this week. He is said to be at least two weeks away from being ready to take part in games.

With Sturm making $3.5 million US this season, the Bruins, already pressed up against the salary cap, would have to create space if they wanted to activate him from the long-term disabled list.By dealing him to the Kings for a conditional pick, that potential headache would become moot.

Sturm, 32, is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
