Kings show interest in Gretzky

Wayne Gretzky a King again?

When Los Angeles Kings general manager Dean Lombardi mentioned that possibility during a radio interview yesterday, the scuttlebutt ran wild.

As a player? As a coach? A front office type? What’s the deal?

Lombardi, it seems, was referring to Gretzky coming in for some kind of an advisory role. If nothing else, he could become involved with the Kings alumni.

Lombardi, who told the Fan 590 that Gretzky could serve as the team’s “minister of character,” said nothing official had been worked out with The Great One as of yet.

Gretzky, who recently resigned from the Phoenix Coyotes, led the Kings to their only Stanley Cup final berth in 1993. The Kings lost the series in five games to the Montreal Canadiens.

Do you think the NHL will ever return to Quebec City?
  Yes, no matter what
  Yes, with a new rink
  No, market too small
  No, not a priority
  Unsure
