CALGARY - Never a dull moment.
That should be the slogan for the 2013-14 Calgary Flames.
The new-look Flames looked pretty darn good for long spurts during Sunday's home-opener at the Saddledome, but it wasn't enough as Mike Santorelli scored in the extra frame to lift the Vancouver Canucks to a 5-4 overtime victory.
The Flames coughed up a two-goal lead only to tie it up with 19 seconds on a David Jones tally to force overtime.
Mark Giordano, Mikael Backlund and rookie Sean Monahan each scored as the hosts staked to a two-goal lead, but Jannik Hansen, Santorelli and Dale Weise all beat goalie Joey MacDonald in a span of just over 11 minutes in the third period to steal the lead.
Jones poked a puck across the line with 19 seconds remaining, but Santorelli's second of the night — and second as a member of the Canucks — sent the Flames' faithful home disappointed.
