Washington 2, Carolina 1

Washington, DC - Dmitry Orlov's first career goal came early in the third period to lift the Washington Capitals to a 2-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. Alexander Semin scored the other goal for the Capitals, who have won their past three games. Tomas Vokoun made 43 saves for the win. Jussi Jokinen scored the lone goal for the Hurricanes, who had a two-game winning streak stopped. Cam Ward made 22 stops in defeat.

Pittsburgh 6, Tampa Bay 3

Tampa, FL - Evgeni Malkin recorded a natural hat trick in the third period to lead the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 6-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Malkin also had two assists while James Neal scored twice for the Penguins, who have won two straight after a six-game slide. Marc-Andre Fleury turned aside 17 shots. Ryan Malone, Teddy Purcell and Matt Gilroy all scored for the Lightning, who have dropped seven straight. Mathieu Garon gave up five goals on 43 shots in the loss. It's the longest losing streak for Tampa Bay since the team ended the 2008-09 season with an 0-7-2 skid.

 

Chicago 4, San Jose 3

Chicago, IL - Jonathan Toews had a goal and an assist as the Chicago Blackhawks took a 4-3 decision over the San Jose Sharks at United Center. Viktor Stalberg also recorded a goal and an assist, while Dave Bolland and Andrew Shaw also lit the lamp for Chicago, which won its third game in four tries. Corey Crawford allowed three goals on 24 shots in the victory. Joe Pavelski, Jamie McGinn and Tommy Wingels netted goals for the Sharks, who had their eight-game point streak snapped. Antti Niemi stopped 36-of-40 shots in defeat.
