WHY FLAMES LOST

Because they couldn't take advantage of a trio of second-period powerplay chances to break open a tie game.

SAVE OF THE GAME

In the first period, while the Sabres were carrying the play, Derek Roy first deflected a long shot from the blueline, which Flames netminder Miikka Kiprusoff stopped. The rebound went to Jason Pominville, and Kiprusoff made a sprawling save.

GOAL OF THE GAME

Gotta give it to the winner. Jason Pominville snapped a shot through Miikka Kiprusoff when the shootout went to the fourth player.

WHAT IT MEANS

Calgary's four-game winning streak comes to an end, but the Flames remain a solid 5-1-2 on the road.
