BOSTON -- Ready or not, there he was.
With Mike Comrie still down with the flu, and Pat Quinn reluctant to play Steve MacIntyre, Fernando Pisani drew in against the Bruins after missing the first 13 games of the season with a back injury.
"Comrie isn't ready and we wanted a player," said Quinn. "Get him back in and see if we can get him started. He's been a pretty good player for this organization. He should be in the lineup if he's healthy and ready to play."
They used him sparingly, just 10 shifts for 8:08 and no penalty killing time.
"I was concerned about him because he didn't have much practice time or any competition," said Quinn. "So we tried to watch."
Pisani didn't even know until just before the game that he was in.
"It was a bit of a surprise to me, I wasn't sure what was going on until game time," he said. "It was pretty tiring. A pretty high-tempo, fast game, but I think I got better as the game went on, my legs got under me a bit. But it's always tough playing that first one back after a long time out."
GARDEN GNOMES
Boston Garden, new and old, have been haunted houses for Edmonton. They haven't won here since 1996 and haven't scored a goal there in three straight games (3-0 in February 2007 and 1-0 in October 2008). The shutout string is 204:02.
"They're tough at home," said Shawn Horcoff. "You have to get back to getting more pucks to the net, keeping it simple. We talk about it, but we're stubborn."
LATE HIT: Ethan Moreau played his 800th NHL game yesterday.
