COMFORT LEVEL

After narrowly avoiding a benching from coach Ron Wilson while struggling earlier in the season, Luke Schenn seems to be regaining his confidence.

The second-year defenceman played for 16 minutes and 29 seconds Friday night in Buffalo, the most ice time he had logged since Oct. 13. Though he was on the ice for the Sabres' overtime winner, Schenn said he is feeling more comfortable than he was earlier.

"Obviously it wasn't too great of a start to the season for me but I'm feeling a lot better out there," Schenn said. "My confidence is definitely growing and I'm getting more involved and reading the puck a little quicker."

HOME AGAIN

It wasn't as celebrated as fellow defenceman Mike Komisarek's return to the Bell Centre but Francois Beauchemin once was property of the Habs as well, albeit for one game.

That said, the Quebec native expected to have a dozen family members on hand for his first trip to Montreal as a Maple Leaf.

"It's going to be good to play here, I always look forward to coming back home," Beauchemin said. "I have a lot of friends and family who looked forward to this game."

QUICK HITS

Forwards Jamal Mayers and Jay Rosehill as well as defenceman Jeff Finger were healthy scratches again last night ... The Leafs return home to face Tampa on Tuesday still seeking their first home victory of the season ... The Leafs were seeking their 100th victory in franchise history at Montreal. Their record prior to last night was 99-204-43-2.
