Last night at Buffalo

CHECK IT OUT

The Leafs escaped a potentially embarrassing situation in the first period when Tomas Kaberle collided with Jason Blake in the Sabres' end, leading to a Buffalo 2-on-1.

Jochen Hecht tried to wait out Leafs defenceman Francois Beauchemin in an attempt to get the puck to Mike Grier, but Beauchemin was patient enough to take the passing lane away and blocked Hecht's pass. Goalie Jonas Gustavsson quickly covered the puck.

STAJAN SILENT

Leafs player rep Matt Stajan did not want to comment on the latest shenanigans in the NHL Players' Association, which saw a parting of the ways yesterday with interim executive director Ian Penny.

"That's an internal matter," Stajan said last night. "I have to look more into it. I just found out before my afternoon nap. I'll comment more later on."
