NOTEWORTHY

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Sabres F Maxim Afinogenov, who was their top forward when he went down with a shoulder injury, has made a speedy recovery and he played -- and scored -- last night when the Sabres hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins ... They can use him, too, as the Sabres lost F Derek Roy for maybe two weeks with a hand injury ... Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said it's possible G Ryan Miller could return tonight ... The Senators beat the Sabres 4-2 in Buffalo Wednesday night in their last meeting ... That was just the Sabres' second loss in regulation time this season ... There was a possibility the two teams would cross paths last night at the airport in Ottawa. The Senators were making their way in from New Jersey and the Sabres from Buffalo ... The Sabres' Daniel Briere was second in the league in assists going into last night's games. The Gatineau native had 18, three behind the Rangers' Jaromir Jagr.
