Forget about a five-year plan. Or even a three-year plan.

For Jim Nill, it was a 14-month plan.

And an impressive one at that.

Hired by the Dallas Stars as general manager on April 29, 2013, Nill has needed just 428 days to turn this moribund franchise into a developing team that is becoming a force to be reckoned with in the mighty Western Conference.

He’s accomplished this impressive feat by injecting three game-changing players into the lineup: Tyler Seguin, Jason Spezza and Ales Hemsky.

During the 2013 campaign, young Jamie Benn must have felt like he was carrying the entire offensive load at times for the Stars.

Things certainly have spruced up for the young captain since that time.

First came the trade during the 2013 off-season with Boston that netted Seguin, who would go on to register 84 points in his first year in Dallas.
