The latest hiccup in the sale process of the Phoenix Coyotes may have cost the team its captain.
Shane Doan will decide his hockey future Friday, according to Phoenix radio host John Gambadoro of Sports 620 KTAR -- and it's down a pair of teams.
"It is down to two -- Phoenix and Vancouver. Coyotes Captain Shane Doan will sign a contract deciding where he will play by 5 p.m. NY time Friday," Gambadoro tweeted Thursday night.
The 35-year-old free agent and the Coyotes had agreed to a contract extension on the condition that the team's ownership situation be resolved by Sept. 15. Prospective buyer Greg Jamison has been working on purchasing the team, but the deal hit a snag after the City of Glendale, Ariz., reneged on a 20-year, $300-million arena payment package.
Jamison has been trying to re-work the agreement and could have a deal by Friday, according to the Phoenix Business Journal.
Doan, who has spent his entire career with the Coyotes franchise, has had offers from multiple teams but has been waiting to see how the Phoenix ownership saga plays out before deciding where he will play next season.
