The Florida Panthers confirmed the signing of veteran goaltender Tim Thomas on Thursday to a one-year contract.

The team did not immediately disclose financial terms, but TSN reported earlier that the deal is in the $3 million to $4 million range.

The Panthers wasted no time putting Thomas on the ice. He was scheduled to play his first exhibition game for the Panthers on Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

"Tim is a proven winner who we are pleased to have signed," Panthers general manager Dale Tallon said. "He is a fierce competitor who brings to our club a wealth of experience, including a Stanley Cup Championship, two Vezina trophies and a Conn Smythe.

"He is a hard-working, driven and dedicated individual who will help our club achieve future success."

The 39-year-old Thomas last played in the NHL for the Boston Bruins in an April 2012 playoff loss to the Washington Capitals before taking last year off.
