Rangers ship Wolski to Panthers
By Sports Network

New York Rangers winger Wojtek Wolski (86) scores a goal on the Philadelphia Flyers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky (L) during the shootout period of their NHL ice hockey game in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, April 3, 2011.

New York, NY - The New York Rangers have traded forward Wojtek Wolski to the Florida Panthers in exchange for defenseman Michael Vernace and a 2013 third round draft pick, the team announced on Saturday.

Wolski has played in only nine games this season for the Rangers, recording three assists. He had surgery to repair a sports hernia on November 8 and missed 27 games.

In 402 career NHL games with Phoenix, Colorado and the Rangers, Wolski has netted 91 goals to go with 158 assists and 107 penalty minutes.

Vernace, 25, has split time this season between the San Antonio Rampage and the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League, posting two goals and 14 assists to go with 30 penalty minutes.

Vernace also has some NHL experience, skating in 22 games for the Colorado Avalanche and Tampa Bay Lightning, registering one assist and 10 penalty minutes. He made his NHL debut with Colorado on March 17, 2009 and picked up his first point against Philadelphia on February 15, 2011.

It was Florida's second deal in as many days, as it also acquired forward Jarred Smithson from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick in 2012 on Friday.
