Panthers GM Jacques Martin will soon sit down with Jay Bouwmeester to try to convince him to stay with the Panthers. There's a strong belief that Bouwmeester has no interest in staying, which means he'll be dealt. Sources indicate Martin won't trade Bouwmeester until the March 4 deadline. The asking price is simple: A player, prospect and a draft pick.
OHLUND LIKELY TO STAY
Talks to get D Mattias Ohlund to sign with the Canucks have stalled, but he likely won't be going anywhere before the deadline. There was some talk that Leafs GM Brian Burke might make a pitch for Ohlund, who'd have to waive his no-movement clause. The Canucks' signing of C Mats Sundin is a good reason why Ohlund, who would be a valuable asset for the Canucks at the deadline, won't want to go anywhere.
ISLE OF DESPAIR?
Isles GM Garth Snow is shopping players with his club in financial difficulty. The talk is the Isles are shopping veteran C Doug Weight and RW Bill Guerin. C Mike Comrie, who has struggled with hip problems, is also available. All three will be attractive for teams looking to make a playoff push. Don't be surprised if Guerin lands in Chicago, which is going to power up for the playoffs.
SIDEKICK FOR SID
The Penguins could be looking for somebody to play alongside C Sidney Crosby. Don't be surprised if they make a pitch for Chicago RW Martin Havlat. Last year, they brought in RW Marian Hossa and Havlat can be just as dynamic if he's given the chance. The Winter Classic was a pretty good stage for Havlat and he responded with a three-point effort. If the Hawks deal him, the asking price will likely be a draft pick and player.
